RM® is proud to announce its participation in the Support the Museum project, promoted by the MAR – Museum of Art of the City of Ravenna. This initiative aims to protect and enhance the public artistic heritage through contributions to two main projects:
- The creation of a new photographic gallery, which will enrich the museum’s cultural offering, creating a space exclusively dedicated to photography
- The restoration of the artwork The Lamentation over the Dead Christ by Giorgio Vasari, a masterpiece from the 16th century that will be restored to its original splendor
With this initiative, RM® renews its commitment to the protection of cultural heritage, contributing to preserving and passing on the value of art to future generations.
Past and Present: A Constant Dialogue
The MAR is housed in the stunning monumental complex of the Loggetta Lombardesca. In addition to the ancient and modern collections and the rich permanent collection of modern and contemporary mosaics, with a focus on works from the second half of the 20th century, the MAR supports new generations in artistic experimentation, with particular attention to mosaics, a central element of Ravenna’s artistic tradition.
The History of the MAR – Museum of Art of the City of Ravenna
The MAR is located in the former Monastery of Santa Maria in Porto, next to the Basilica, built at the beginning of the 16th century. The complex stands out for its magnificent Renaissance cloister and the Loggetta Lombardesca, an elegant five-arched loggia created by Lombard and Campione craftsmen, overlooking the public gardens and becoming the symbol of the entire building.

After the Napoleonic suppressions, the monastery underwent several repurposings until a major restoration in the 1970s. In 2002, the Loggetta Lombardesca became the home of the Museum of Art of the City of Ravenna, established by the Municipality.
Today, the MAR houses a rich artistic heritage, including:
- The collection of modern and contemporary mosaics
- Works from the 14th to the 21st century
- The Gipsoteca of the Academy of Fine Arts
With its collections and ongoing commitment to the protection and enhancement of cultural heritage, the MAR represents a reference point for culture and art in Ravenna and the international scene.
